Compact tanks make footprint matching easier to see—and easier to get wrong. These are defensible starting shortlists, not coral-placement guarantees.

Three buying checks people miss

Tank lip and rear chamber

Confirm the arm clamp clears trim, lids and the filtration chamber. A “compatible” light can still have an incompatible mount.

Glare at eye level

Small tanks often sit on desks or low cabinets. Mounting height, shades and room sightlines matter.

One source or two

One fixture is simpler. Two can reduce hard shadows and let you shape overlap, but doubles mounts, cables and control points.

Included light first

For Fluval Evo and complete MAX systems, establish what the bundled fixture cannot do before replacing it.

Check cost before checkout
