Reef Bench is a UK-based independent publication. Privacy enquiries can be sent to privacy@reefbench.co.uk.
Free tools and Companion device saving
The free Companion keeps tank names, tasks, water tests, spending and attached cost plans on the page. Choosing Save stores a copy in this browser; it does not upload those records to a Reef Bench account. Loading or restoring a JSON backup replaces the page records. Downloaded files are saved on your device. Clear Companion removes its page records and saved browser copy; separately saved calculator drafts and downloaded files remain until you remove them. Calculator drafts are also saved only when you choose to save. Tool usage events, when analytics consent is granted, contain the tool name and version, not your tank name, measurements, spending amounts or notes.
Information we may receive
- Information you voluntarily send by email, including your email address and message.
- Basic server and security logs needed to operate and protect the website.
- Aggregated usage information if privacy-respecting analytics are enabled after consent where required.
- Affiliate attribution information provided in aggregated reports by participating merchants or networks.
Why we use it
To respond to messages, correct factual errors, secure and operate the website, understand whether content is useful, and administer commercial relationships. The applicable lawful basis will depend on the activity, including legitimate interests, contract, legal obligation or consent.
Sharing and international processing
Information may be processed by hosting, email, analytics and affiliate service providers where necessary. Their identities, purposes, locations and safeguards will be recorded here before the relevant service is activated.
Retention
Information is kept only as long as reasonably necessary for its stated purpose, security, accounting or legal obligations. Operational retention periods will be documented before public launch.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you rights to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to processing, and to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
